RE: [T3] Ball joint replacement

They are not pressed in, but held in place with a threaded nut. One thing
to keep in mind when removing that nut is that the hole the ball joint stud
is in is not round so that the stud wont rotate. Don't use an impact wrench
if they are too tight... heat the nut red hot and it will come right off.
If the joint is junk anyway your not hurting anything but if you round off
that hole you may have trouble tightening the new joints nut.

Subject: [T3] Ball joint replacement

Hello
I have a 1966 Fastback and I was thinking of
replacing the ball joints. They are worn and the
rubber is almost gone. I was wondering what tool I
need for this job or should I take the spindles out
and have them pressed in at a machine shop. I saw a
Ball joint tool on ebay and wondering what is
recomended for our VWs.
