[T3] Had a little fun today with Sophy...
<x-flowed>...sort of. What started out as a simple maintenance check, (check and
adjust valves, check the plugs and points, etc.) turned into me pulling
her engine. The valves were fine....had a couple that need slight
tweaking to loosen them up just a bit. I was checking the plugs since
I had discovered and replaced 3 out of the 4 resistor ends of the plug
wires that had gone bad. The plugs all looked fine and only needed
slight regapping. The problem came with #2. I couldn't get the spark
plug socket onto the plug. Feeling through the hole in the tin
revealed that the rod for the cooling flaps had fallen down against the
plug. Oops. Fortunately, I had the spring in the system that caused
the flaps to fail open so I never overheated the engine.
Since the only way to fix the linkage is to remove the tin on that
side, I dropped her engine to make it easier. Turns out that the set
screw in the barrel nut had come loose. Both the barrel nut and the
set screw were sitting on the top of the cylinder head. I put it all
back together and that is all set for now. I took the opportunity to
check out some other things and clean up a few more.
Should be able to get the engine back in in the next day or two.
