I've got an issue with my Notch that sounds like a throw out bearing making noise, but I've replaced it. Is it possible that the pilot bearing is making this sound? It doesn't make the sound at idle (about 700 rpm, and the oil light is out), but if you bump the revs up to 900, it'll start doing it. It also does it whether the clutch is depressed or not (no change), and definitely does it while slowing down (for a light or stop sign) in gear, using the engine for braking. Is it possible that the engines internals are just getting worn out (end play changed or rods getting worn, or thrust, etc...)? I'm only asking because the noise started late last fall (right before winter storage), and right after I changed the big fan (had a shroud screw come loose and started to machine the front of the fan). Well actually it was about week after I changed the fan. Some background info now: This engine had unknown miles on it when I got it, and was completely OE VW before I converted it to t-3 cooling (was a bug motor). I've had it for over 10 years, and it still runs great, and I'm not really sure how many miles I've put on it, since I've had it in 3 different type 3s. The noise is just bothering me. Thanks for any help or suggestions.
