I've been helping my son work on his car, and while he was doing some other work we pulled the engine (makes it easier to change the swing axle boots). We found that the conversion bushing (6 to 12 volt) was egg shaped where the starter drive rides. Turns out this bushing is just a brass bushing, which might explain why it wore so quickly. I had a new regular 12 volt oillite bronze bushing here, as he bought a new starter as his old one was turning kinda slow and the bushing came with the starter. I took it and the brass one to work where my boss opened up the brass one to accept the bronze one ( light press fit so as not to bind on the starter shaft). I used some red loctite to join the 2 together, and it seems to be working fine. My question is, do you think this is an acceptable repair for this, or should he get another brass one? Thanks for any help on this.
