When we got to the redwoods, Tom was gathering people up in a turnout. Since I was running sweep at the back, there was no place for me in the turnout. I ran on down the road to what I thought was a wide spot on the shoulder. Come to find out, is was freshly installed gravel that had nothing under it. My SUV slid off into the ditch. Luckily, a 4x4 that one of the people in the group knew pulled up and I had a tow rope, so we pulled it back up on the pavement. No harm, No foul. All is well.
