The heat is a genuine concern. The ambient temps on our way so far have gotten as high as 99F, and Keith's oil temp has exceeded his previous record by about 40F. Exhaust valves and seats are the major worry, and I'm particularly worried because my # 1 exhaust keeps tightening up. I think I'm going to check it every morning, and I'm tempted to up the fuel pressure just to richen the mixture and keep the temps down. The cost of a little extra fuel will be insignificant compared to dropping a valve somewhere in the middle of nowhere. The heat is compounded by the difficulty of pushing these old cars up some really difficult climbs. I'm trying to keep the throttle at 3/4 or less, but I still have my fingers crossed. All in all, we've made it in one piece so far, and we're grateful for that. -- **************************************** Jim Adney Madison, Wisc., USA **************************************** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
