When I remove the hose from the bottom of the AAR, the car does the rev up
rev down thing. When I block all but a sliver of the hose opening, I can get
it to idle normally. Does this mean the AAR is bad?
I just happened to have an extra AAR, but no screwdriver. I connected the
extra AAR
without mounting it and it didn't help, maybe it has to be actually mounted?

Sounds like normal operation to me. It means it's closing off when warm
(supposed to do this). Also with the hose off, it sounds like the MPS is doing it's
job (giving a shot of fuel to make up for the extra air). Have you checked
the valve adjustment, along with the point gap and timing of the dizzy?
Sometimes if either or any of these is off a little, it'll make a difference. With the
key on, do you get 20 or so clicks out of the TPS when you move the throttle?
If not, then you either have a bad TPS or one out of adjustment. Other than
that, I'm at a loss for more help.
