I think some early Bosch injectors came with no tips, then they came with black 
tips, and finally they came with yellow tips. In general, the tip color matches 
the color of the molded plastic on the inlet end.

There are certainly aftermarket replacements out there, but I've had enough 
trouble with them that I would never use them. Genuine Bosch injectors have the 
Bosch logo and part number on one flat side of the molded plastic on the inlet 
end. If the injector was distributed thru the VW system, then the VW logo and 
part number will also be on the opposite flat side.

Early black type 3 injectors have Bosch numbers ending in 001, late yellow ones 
end in 007. I believe they can be interchanged, but I try to keep them all the 
same in one car.

Aftermarket injectors are unmarked. It's quite possible that some aftermarket 
injectors are fine, and some may just be rebuilt Bosch injectors with new 
injection molded caps on them. I don't know, but I've had a few cars which 
never ran right in spite of everything I could do with them. They settled right 
down as soon as I put in the correct Bosch injectors.  

My '71 came with 3 Bosch injectors and one aftermarket. I spent 2 days trying 
to correct a running problem and, in desperation, finally replaced that one 
injector. It ran fine after that. I don't know if the problem was flow rate or 
the solenoid, but it was certainly something related to that injector.

I haven't run into this enough times to be absolutely certain about it, but I 
now tend to be suspicious of non-Bosch injectors.
