I don't understand why the notch > air ducts could not be just the same as the fasty and square. VW did the Notch differently from the Square or Fastback. The Notch had the ducting run inside the trunk, shrinking the available space (compared to a Square or Fasty), while the Square-Fasty's ductwork is outside (inside the fender) due to the air inlet. It does make sense to do it this way, since you're already loosing space for the wheel well arch, what's a couple more inches. :? On a Square, to do this, it would eat up available load floor space, and that wouldn't be acceptable. >On a notch, does the trunk space extend out sideways INTO the > fenders? No. The inside space is basically empty between the outer fender and the outer trunk side. There is the wiring harness, and trunk release cable tube on the left side running in there, but nothing else. According to some pictures that have been posted on the Samba, the later Notch's got their air intake drains moved to that side of the trunk wall, but that is to accommodate the IRS engine hangers. I hope this clears this up a little.
