The automatic's AAR is a sealed unit. It's a little can with a top that's crimped on all the way around like the top of a beer can. It's not like I can undo a number of little crimps, and then hammer them back into place. It's one continuous crimp. I just tested out- I am getting 12V at the AAR connector in the engine compartment, and hooking up the AAR to 12V after a few minutes it gets toasty warm (not hot, but it is cold in my garage). The rotary valve inside doesn't turn. In fact, it won't turn despite my attempts at trying to move it with a screwdriver (I can see about a half-circle of the AAR's valve hole) It did seem to move a little when I tapped on the side of the valve body with the plastic handle of the screwdriver. I'm a little loathe to put any penetrating oil in the AAR out of fear that it may damage the heating element, but this might be my only option.. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
