I'm afraid that after I sent that last message I got to thinking that your 
wiring was completely different from what I am used to in the later cars. I 
think Russ posted a wiring diagram which I had forgotten about, which showed 
the power coming thru the fuse box BEFORE it got to the switch. If that's the 
way your '65 is wired, then you should just ignore my previous comments.

Running those 6V bulbs on 12V would certainly fry them, but that wouldn't cause 
any other problems, just a few fried bulbs. Just be careful that you haven't 
overlooked anything expensive that the 12V might also fry.
