RE: [T3] FI cams

<x-flowed>I'm aware of the different sizes of cam gear which available to compensate for manufacturing variances. The reason I asked the question is because there is mention on "shoptalkforums" of different timing of valve opening for cams supplied with FI and carbed engines. There is also discussion that the FI cam is better suited to the ratios of the automatic gearbox.

This is contrary to everything I have read, which says that all 1600 cams have the same valve timing, lift and duration. I have also never seen aftermarket FI cams advertised. I suppose if there ever was such a thing as an FI cam, you could simply find an aftermarket cam which the same specs.

So, can we definitively say that VW never supplied different cams with FI engines? (Apart from gear size and fixing method)

On a separate, but related, question - do the stock FI dizzys retard timing of no 3 cylinder?
