This really surprises me. My standard valve cover gaskets were unchanged over the course of the trip. Now maybe the normal gaskets are just a bit more heat tolerant, but I also wonder if your alum valve covers might be a disadvantage here. Yes, aluminum is a better thermal conductor than steel, but the steel covers are more than enough thinner to make up for that. BTW, my valve cover gaskets were also the same ones I drove to Hershey and back with. I'd consider going back to the stock covers. They're really quite good, and the spring bail system works quite well to make them seal. It's a much better system than a bolt-on valve cover. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
