You may have something as simple as a loose wire on your generator or 
under the back seat. An intermittent charging system isn't likely to 
stop you, but eventually it will become a non-functioning charging 
system, which certainly will. Also, If it's a loose connection, the 
arcing of an intermittent connection will burn the connector, causing 
progressive minor damage that may not be fixable on the roadside. Find 
it, fix it. If you do this yourself you'll save a lot of money and learn 
about your car for next time.
