Find out what it is that just can't be tightened any more. This just 
isn't sounding like a realistic explanation.

2 or 3 tanks of gas a week would be fine if you put in a lot of 
miles, anything above 20 mi/gal would be "normal" so do some 
figuring. Does your odometer work?
