In the case of switches like this, the number on the switch is probably the correct original number for that switch, but it may not be the correct number for a replacement if the switch has been superceeded. For something like this, the middle and last digit triplets will always be correct, but the replacement part may have a different beginning digit triplet and the suffix letter may change. For things like cylinder heads and engine blocks, I believe the number cast into the block is VW's part # for the CASTING and not for the finished part. The problem here is that VW could machine several different versions of the part out of the same casting. Each of those versions got its own part # and each was different from the casting number. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
