While I agree with most of what you wrote, it might be worth bearing in mind
how many parts from a '63 Type 3 were compatible with a '73 model.
With the move from 6V to 12V, 1500cc to 1600cc, single carb to dual carb to
FI and the different interior trim, body shapes and lighting configuration,
I think the answer is "not many".
Even in the case of the Type 34, which really didn't change all that much
over the years, there are very few early model parts that fit a very late
model, and most of those that do fit look quite different.
