I'm wondering what the practical differences are in the shock absorber

significant changes between swingaxle and irs in the rear, but what
about the front shocks? Any major changes?

The front shocks changed in early '67, but I can't tell what changed about them. They may have just changed the damping. I don't find any other part that changed at the same time.

So, late Type 3 front shocks MIGHT work on an early car, but late rears absolutely won't? The reason I ask is that the shock catalogs I've seen don't list Type 3s before 1968. If I were looking for shocks for an early 60s Type 3, would Type 1 or late Type 3 shocks be more likely to fit? I'm thinking the rears would need to be the same as a swingaxle Type 1, but I'm confused about the front shocks.
