Don't use tape. Messy and ineffective

Touch leads together -- 0 Ohms (no resistance). A good connection has 
essentially no resistance. This is about all you need to know for most 
tests.

=> What else can be maybe seen by watching engine run in the dark?

You might see a crack in the distributor cap.
