Could be that the tank is no venting properly and creating a partial 
vacuum in the tank reducing fuel flow.  After sitting for a spell the 
tnak is back to normal and the fuel pump starts pumping out the fuel 
and the vent can't make up the air fast enough.

Next time it happens, op out and open the fuel cap.  Do you hear a rush 
of air into the tank?

Worth a check anyway since it is free. <G>
