I got the engine back in and up and running... I planned on a midnight run home to my fathers house where it will sit in a tent out of the weather for the winter. Seems the Crate has NO functional lights though, good thing it already has a name or I would have named it "Lucas". VW hadnt invented the ground connection in 65 had they? So I drove it the 3 miles during daylight... which Im still seeing through the floorboards. It was a blast having it moving under its own power for the first time in maybe 15 years. It did OK, and made it. Ill post some more pictures when I get back from my Virginia trip next week. Next year I do the Pan, rockers and it would indeed be nice to have some brakes that operate by foot. We shall see how much time after Ive tended to the 71.
