[T3] VERY nice '67 Squareback for sale in Madison, Wis.

I ran across a really nice '67 Squareback here in town a couple of years ago. I
gave the owner my name then and hoped to see it again, but never heard from
them until this week when they called to tell me that they wanted to sell it.
Today, I went over and took some pictures and looked it over again. It's pretty
nice and I'm hoping that someone on our list will want to give it a good home.

The photos are on Russ's web site. You can see them at:

1967 VW Type 3 Squareback
Beige paint, black interior
dual Solex carbs

This is a California car that has been in Wisconsin about 3 years. It's likely
that it has never been driven in snow or seen salted roads. I saw no signs of
significant rust anywhere.

Cosmetically this car appears to be in very good condition, but it is not
perfect. The paint is pretty good, but there are a few chips and peels. It has
some beat up hubcaps and the driver's side inside door handle is broken. The
wheels lack the beauty rings. It suffered some front end damage a couple years
ago, but the bumper was replaced with one from Georgia, and the beak has been
replaced. The bumper looks perfect, but the beak is not so hot. That area was
repainted and it looks like the damage was extremely minor and the repair was
good. It could probably use a new headlight trim ring on one side. I checked
under the back seat and didn't see any signs of water there

Most of the window seals are in VG condition, but the popout inner rubbers are
cracked in several places. The interior (carpet, seat covers, and headliner)
are original and in VG condition, no tears. Parts of the carpet need to be
glued back into place. The rubber mat over the engine is dirty but has no tears
or defects that I could see. The engine cover is nearly perfect, top and
bottom, and the support strap is intact. It has the aftermarket stainless steel
"eyelids" over the side door windows.

At the moment it is not running; the car has been sitting for about 2 years.
The owner thinks it just got out of tune and got too hard to start. I don't
think there is anything major wrong with it. The battery is the wrong size and
is dead. The RF tire is flat; I didn't look at the spare, but the owner thinks
it's good.

An aux key switch has been installed in the dash, below and left of the
steering column. The original starter switch has failed.

There are a few odd things which have been added in the engine compartment, but
all of them are easily removable. There appear to be air shocks added to the
rear.

The owner is eager to sell, and a buyer today could get this car for cheap.
I've told him that it's unlikely to sell at this time, but that he could get
much more for it next spring once I got it running again. I don't think there's
much here that would he hard to fix. It just needs some TLC with a number of
small details to be a REALLY NICE '67 Squareback.

If you have more questions, please email me directly.
