I'd already > guessed which grease monkey was to blame. ;) Once you know what to feel for, you can just reach around the dist body and feel for that shoulder that should be pushed all the way down against the clamp. If you feel any space there, then you know that it's not all the way down. I check this any time I've reinstalled a distributor, because one of my friends did exactly the same thing that you did.
