Donald, your 65 Notch should have been 6 volt from the start, but the PO 
probably converted it. The sending unit is interchangeable between the two 
voltages, but the gas gauge itself is voltage specific. You can install the later 
12volt gauge into the 6 volt pod, as it's only held on by 2 screws. You do 
however have to remove the pod from the dash to access the back of it.
 
I just replaced the entire pod with one from a later car when I did my 
conversion. I hope this helps.
