I don't think it's really useful to refer to VW Type 3 body parts in 
discussing details of Karmann body parts, since they went through quite 
separate design and production processes, and Karmann did so much hand 
work and made far fewer cars. The Type 34 wheel wells are significantly 
farther forward of the A piller than other Type 3 models, for example.

For a definitive answer I'd check with Larry Edson on the 34 list. He's 
cut up a large number of these cars and I'm sure has dissected this 
section in the process.
