They are supposed to breathe, to allow for evaporation, and prevent water penetration. I use mine to help keep water out of the interior...although I thought I had my car all sealed properly-it survived a few heavy rains with no water penetration, but after sitting in the driveway for a while, I went to go for a ride, and the rugs were wet again. Not sure how the water got in(maybe the door wasn't shut completely, which happens sometimes with my new door gaskets). I figure the cover helps this. As for the greenhouse effect-my car cover is a light grey, which should reflect some light away. Without the cover, you really have a greenhouse, and the interior would actually get hotter, right? -kevin '71 sqbk '65 kombi somerville, ma Jim wrote: "....While they WILL keep dust, dirt, and leaves off your car, they will also hold moisture in after a wet spell, and this prolonged wetness can really accellerate rust... The second problem is that when the sun is out they are bound to produce a greenhouse effect that keeps your interior hotter than it would be otherwise. Since heat is the real enemy of all your plastic parts, this is a real problem.
