It looks like it is all there. You are one lucky so and so. That that
didn't drop into the ring and pinion area.

I suppose everyone gets one lucky break. . . .

Originally, it is just crimped into the end of the shaft by those 4
flats. They do it that way to have a mini universal joint. And over time
it loosens up. I would lay it on a block of wood, and punch each flat
place with a center punch. that should tighten it enough to get it back
in.

OK, I'll try that. The sleeve has a bevel at one end; does that go towards the governor or into the tranny case?


I you want, I can go pull the one from my parts trans and get a picture
of it for you.

BTW, I realised today that it is most likely the lug bolt that is stripped, not the hub. Does the Beetle use the same bolts? I actually don't think I have any spare ones.
