All was well. '73s should be timed to TDC. '72-3 timing marks are different ( | | | | ) from the earlier years, so you may actually be doing this right. The second mark, counting L to R, is TDC. Earlier marks look like | | | |, where the leftmost mark is TDC. > Finally, because I wanted to try anything (and because I had it), I figured I > might as well swap out the TVS. Viola! I've certainly seen a few problems with '72-3 TVSs, but they all show up at cruising speed. Do you have it adjusted right? That could certainly make a difference. Adjustment of these generally takes an Ohmmeter. Is your mech adv working? Check it by grabbing the rotor and twisting it CW. It should move about 1/2" and then run into a stop. When you release it, it should snap back smartly. They often stick and this would explain a lot. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
