I'm a big fan of the blunt end of the screwdriver in the ear trick. If you move the sharp end to different places, you can hear lots of different noises and generally locate most noises. You should make sure that you listen at each of these spots: 3-4 different places along the length of the case the fan housing & pulley shroud, a few different places both heads, at the intake manifolds You should also grab the "horns" of the fan housing and see if you can move it at all, independently of the case. It should be rigid to the case. Check for loose tin and missing tin screws. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
