On your ('73?) the part you're looking for is a 311 201 179C. It is NLA from VW and hard to find anywhere. You can make up a replacement from anything that will fit. I think the ID would be something around 3/8-7/16". > A friend of mine suggested that I should make sure that all of my FI > components are compatible. There are certainly things that you can get away with, but once you start down that road troubleshooting becomes very iffy. There's not a 1:1 match between the suffix letters, but there are certainly correct and incorrect matchups. For example, both the A and B brains use the same B PS. Beyond that I have to be home to refer to my books. A '73 should have an E brain and an E PS. There were 2 different E brains, and you should try to find the later one. (The earlier one was used in '72 with a different distributor.) I can send you the 10 digit Bosch number tonight. If you need parts, I probably have them. The E PS should have a black plastic cap on one end. If it is missing then it has probably been tampered with, and that could also be part of your problem. Is the cap there? A '73 should also have a throttle valve switch with 5 pins on it. Does yours have 5 pins? You should also have a distributor with vacuum advance but no vacuum retard. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
