Re: [T3] Passed test - good and bad news

<x-flowed>It seems that what I should do is change the governor o-ring, and the pan gasket, since I was going to do them anyway, and both are leaking some, and see whether this fixes the leak. If not, take out the engine and change the torque converter seal.

Once these three are all changed, is there anything else that is likely to cause a large external leak?

As for the pan gasket, is there anything I need to know about changing it? I noticed that in the books the ATF drain plug is shown as being at the side of the tranny, whereas mine is at the rear. Did someone put it on the wrong way or were some like this? Should I coat the pan gasket with anything before installing it?

Thanks,

Daniel

I took a look under the car. It is obviously very wet under there but
most noticeably so at the front of the engine .The front of the
underside of the engine and the front of the heat exchangers seem to
be covered in ATF. Also, the left-hand-side CV boot is wet with ATF.
This I would guess is a separate leak from the governor cover. Also
the pan gasket needs changing for sure.

This sounds like the governor cover 0-ring, which would be very good news.

The actual torque converter seems to be quite dry. Hopefully this
means it's not cracked.

If the TC seal were the culprit, I'd expect the TC to be soaked.

So, our best bet is the torque converter oil seal, right?

Doesn't sound that way to me. This sounds like an easy fix to me. Did you already replace the gov cover O-ring?
