This struck me as a good suggestion. Knowing where your leak 
actually is is likely to save you a lot of work.

It's fairly easy to measure the height of the engine. Just raise the 
car until you have a bit more room than that under the rear end, so 
that you know you can slide the engine out. I think the magic 
number is something around 18-20".
