It looked okay, but lately it has been squealing at startup. The heaviest load on the generator occurs right after startup, because that's when the battery has just been discharged from the starting cycle. If the belt is squealing, however, that is a sign that it is just a bit too loose. Remove the generator, move ONE shim from inside to outside on the pulley, and reinstall the generator. > Bently says clean the brush first, so I did clean only the top brush and the light went out. It is likely that your brushes are worn out. They should be replaced if they have worn to the point where they no longer stick out above the holders they slide in. It's also possible that they were just sticking, or that the pigtails were restricting their movement so that they couldn't move in any further as they wore down. They need to be free to move. The pigtail slips down in a bit of a notch in the side of the holder, but once it reaches the bottom of that slot, the brush is shot. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
