The guage itself is either 6 volt or 12 volt. If you're trying to use a 6 volt guage with 12 volts, then you'll have problems. Once you pull the guage cluster out, turn it around and see what voltage is stamped on the guage part. If it's wrong for your car, you can remove the 2 screws and swap it out. I hope this helps. Also if you don't mess up the gasket, you can reuse them, as they are some sort of rubber.
