Sounds like lots of fun! Keith Keith Park Top Notch Restorations topnotch@nycap.rr.com 71 Squareback 65 Notchback "El BajaRojo" 65 Squareback "Eggcrate" 87 Golf 88 Rx7 10th Anniversary "Rextur" ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brian Fye" <Brian.Fye@susd.k12.or.us> To: <type3@vwtype3.org> Sent: Monday, March 28, 2005 12:33 PM Subject: [T3] thanks Toby! > what a couple days... > > Toby came down to Casa de Fye last Wednesday and Thursday to help me prepare cars for my 12 mile trip north. With Toby's help we got the 67 squareback to become a legal to drive! What did this involve, you ask? > > Well, we rebuit the rear brakes, bled the system and then moved on to the engine bay. Had to put an engine into the car. Got the engine hung in record time, then fought the upper bolts to get it complete secured. Wired up every thing and went to fire it off... Crank, crank, crank, but no boom. Then we noticed that the fuel line was not hooked up to the EMPTY fuel tank. DOH!!!! I am an idiot! Hooked that up, added fuel, lowered the rear of the car down some and BOOOOOM! we gots a nice running car! Next came the electrical system. It seems that the 67 type 3 got a type 2 lighting relay system under the dash. Mine had one that wasn't operating correctly... up to the semi local import parts place to find out that a new box was around $100, plus waiting time.... Grrr!!! So, what do we do? I deferred to the electrical wizard himself... Toby the Great! He installed an emergency flasher set up from a 73 squareback and relay... everything was buttoned up and working e! > xcept the BRAKE lights.... GRRRR. So, what is a poor type 3 owner to do? Take the electrical guru out for dinner and then let him have at it again in the rain! Well, it was raining but he was under the car port. Long story short... 2 1/2 hours later we had working brakelights!!!!! > > I could not have done this without Toby's help! But, that wasn't all... > > I learned how to use the FI tester box on the 71 squareback and the system tested out good! lots of green lights!!! I also was able to beat on the 64 notchback's nose some more to get the hood to open and shut correctly. This will help until i can afford the needed body work. > > I wish every session with my cars was this productive! > > > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > >
