[T3] Rear panel replacement tips?
<x-flowed>Okay, I'm going to tackle replacing the rear panel on our '68 Fastback
myself. The body shop did cut out most of the damaged panel, but
because we were originally going to adapt the Notchback panel I had to
the Fastback. Now that I have the proper rear panel, I'm going to clear
out the remaining panel and get to it. I do have a some questions about
the project.
1. Is the weld along the bottom of the panel (where it attaches to the
lower section of the ductwork) a series of spot welds or one long,
continuous weld?
2. This panel does not have the holes for the license plate bracket.
Does someone have the measurements of where to install the captured nuts
for the bracket?
3. Any suggestions on a coating for the back of the rear panel? I was
thinking a weld-through primer would be good, and perhaps getting some
paint in there through the ductwork once its installed.
I think that once I get the remaining spot welds drilled out, and hammer
and dolly the pieces that will be retained, installing and lining up the
panel itself will be a cinch.
