<x-flowed>Once you get into California, there's a nice option. Head to Nevada City on Hiway 20, where I live.
Then down 20 towards Marysville and pick up hiway 70 north, little jog on 149 to get to 99 north to Chico and then on to Red Bluff and then there's not much choice other than I5 to Oregon. It's shorter than heading into Sacramento and then heading north.
It's a nice diversion from the boring I5, and a bit shorter as well. According to Mapquest which shows this route for Nevada City to Myrtle Creek, its 6.5 hours, 377 miles.
This route avoids the heat of the valley as much as possible until you get to Red Bluff where there are no other options over the Siskiyous.

There are a couple possibilities, but a quick check today make it look like taking I80 across WY NV and then a back road into OR. There is no easy, straight way of getting to Myrtle creek from the east.
