Hey hey, it has been a while. The Notch and I are back and itching to get right with the world. I have put almost all that I can into the projects around the house, changed job descriptions (and hours), made the recquisite sacrifices to the Type III gods and I'm jumping into the mix. This is where we are at the moment "http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=212983" and we're going to get on the road soon, I swear we are. I actually got her started and running the other day, after almost 3 years off the road; 1 year in the shop + 2 odd years of reasssembly and moving to another house, blah-blah-blah. Body; redone with new doors, rockers and Atlas White paint. Engine; torn down, rebuilt with new pistons and jugs; remote filter, oil sump and short shifter from Gene Berg; rebuilt 041 heads with mild port polishing; ceramic coated exhaust (which'll do for now), new brake lines and components all around with DOT5 brake fluid, etc. AAR, got her started the other night-in the rain,BTW but couldn't time the engine. What's this? No generator light at all? It shows 12 volts+ on the voltmeter on the dash but nothing (maybe 1-2 volts steady, no increase with revs) at the coil or generator posts. I can't even time the engine because I can't find 12 volts anywhere on the engine. Dang, what's with that? It's rained 25 out of the past 27 days down here and I can't work on the car for more than 30 minutes without it pouring. I'm shooting for this weekend to try to troubleshoot the gennie/regulator (all the other electrical items; tach, lights, t/s's, 4 ways, etc. work), "but" the car was completely apart for 2 years, as in every item was removed, tagged, stored, packed, moved and put back on the car. I'm surprised that it works as well as it does. Either way, I did take her down the street and she does rip and stop "real" nice so I'm 95% there, just gotta hang in there and not give up. Next thing is a new headliner and interior and seat fabric, I can only imagine what nightmare that'll turn into. I've been lurking for the past couple of years, just wanted to say hey and it's good to be back. I'll try not to be a stranger... David Walters '73 1600 L Notchback S.
