<x-flowed>I disagree:  Preignition is when the fuel mixture starts burning before 
it should, either by something else hot w/in the combustion chamber or 
by compression, whereas detonation is the explosive burning of the fuel 
mixture instead of the normal (slower) burning of the fuel.
