Talk about darksider. Back in the late 70's with my 67SB with a Corvair 140 hp in it, I got 24-25 on trips, and it didn't seem to matter how fast I went. Although my average speed was probly around 65-70. That was back in the days of 55. I would certainly expect an FI engine to do better. And that was correct as I too used mile markers, etc. That was about the same mileage the 140 Corvair eng. would get in the Car it came with, so I wasn't that surprised.
