Well, I don't know if I will ever get a definate cause of the fire. The investigator that Allstate sent was citing the Squareback as the cause of the fire, but couldn't give me a reason how it started. I had not driven that car in a week and it had been running fine the last time it was used. I had not mowed the lawn for a few days, so the mower was not hot either. All the electricity to the garage was switched from inside the house, and that had been shut off hours earlier. There was extreme heat where the Square was though, the gearbox is completely burned out of the car. Just the main shaft is sticking out from the clutch. The body is distorted too. All is not lost though, I went to the Invasion in Hershey last year and was inspired to save another Square. That car was in Jersey at the time of the fire, so it is fine (well it needs a lot of work, but is workable). I am a member of the Central Jersey VW Society, even though I live in Southeast PA, and I had a fellow member offer to give me a 68 Fasty. I'll certainly update if I learn anymore. -Bill __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
