I wish I'd taken a better look now - it was a sort of 'what IS that?' look, followed by an oh, yes! I don't know that I've ever dismantled the valve part from the later assembly - the lever must push on the water valve part in the later ones in a similar way I suppose, but I suppose the lever can be used for the microswitch rather than the push-rod of the button. All will become clear one day. Dave.
