If you really had a squareback with struts, it was a Type 4. They overlapped for a number of years as the 411 early, 412 late. It was the culmination of where VW was headed with the aircooleds, and served as a bit of a bridge between the body-on-pan of the T1 and T3 and the future unibody FWD waterpumpers. It was a rear-engined unibody aircooled with struts up front. An evolutionary step. Restoring one of these babies is probably a bigger challenge than our T3s owing to their relative rarity.
