I'm rarely at the DMV in NY for more than 30 minutes.

As for historical plates, check ebay. For a '71, your plates are a bit
harder to find- you need the blue plates with orange lettering, I
think 66-72, and you have to then get the '71 registration sticker.
Those are findable separately. Ebay is a good place to look.

For me, '73 is when they switched to the orange plates with blue
letters, '73-'86. Registration sticker was droppen in '73 in favor of
a window sticker. Much easier to find (and I have a stash of them at
home). What's the holy grail for me is a set of orange plates with
xxx-Qnn, which would have been a Queens county issued plate in the
'70s. I'm trolling Ebay for those.

Yes, I know too much about NY State License Plates.
