I used to have a Dune Buggy (rail) with an Aluminum Buick v-8 in it ( I built it). Weighed about 1000 lb. made a a lot of power and was really fast. I raced a lot at Glamis, but was only mid pack in going up the hill. Fastest buggy I ever saw was VW powered (probly not even one original VW part in the motor), weighed 600 and some pounds (aluminum frame)and had no generator, shroud, or fan. It ran on a combination of alcohol and "fuel". The guy told me that with the alcohol, he didn't need a fan. He would do a run up the hill and let it cool before another one. He could drive around slowly on the sand without overheating, do to the alcohol. I asked him how much power he thought it made, he said around 300 hp. Said he had to rebuild it fairly often. He only drove it to the hill and back to camp. I noticed that some of the guys here list all the vehicles they have after their name. At the risk of being thought a real weirdo, I added my complete list below.
