Your right.  Once the she can face forward there is more room.  Have you 
tried using the passenger seat?  no air bag!

You'll have to take the car with you when car-seat shopping for the next 
one (you'll be buying them every year or so!).  The other thing you'll 
discover is that new seats are not necessarily compatible w/o shoulder 
belts, especially when you graduate to boosters.
