I'd have to say that the key here is "can't imagine." I'm sure that your partial system is fine where you are, but there really are sub-arctic places where even the full blown system leaves a lot to be desired. I recall many days driving to work and arriving with numb fingers and toes, even though the heater was putting out the best it could. It's just amazing how much difference there is between +40F and -20F. Around here, +40 is considered shirtsleeve weather. ;-) OTOH, I doubt if my type 3s will ever see that kind of driving again. I don't want to put them thru it, and I certainly don't want to put myself thru it again. I have a Ford that has a better heater (and a REAL defroster!) and I consider that a "disposable" car. I used aftermarket exhausts for many years. I actually did it because I didn't know how to get the little HEs off the old mufflers, AND because the aftermarket systems were CHEAP. I gave up on the aftermarket systems because I couldn't keep them tight, and because they didn't really fit the car well. They hit the body where the exit pipe is, and they always catch on the ground even with the car at stock height. I'm sure it would be possible to design a better one, but I couldn't find one at that time. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
