In between the intake runners, in the middle, is an alum casting called the intake air distributor. If the part you're talking about is on top of this, above the intake runners, then that is a temp sensor. The cold start valve is on the under side of the intake sir distributor, on the right side directly under the center line of the 2 right side intake runners. > When I look under the runners on that side I see a threaded piece of tin that > looks as though something should be screwed into it but isn't. If the temp switch is gone, then maybe the CSV is also gone, but that would leave a large hole in the intake air distributor which would have to be plugged in order for the engine to run. I'll try to see if I can point you to a photo of the CSV in the Bentley when I get home tonight. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
