It is looking a lot better, but I don't think you have a heavy enough

spring. I uploaded some more pictures of the the NOS one. If your

monitor is big enough, and you have enough internet bandwidth, those
are

some high resolution pictures if you keep clicking on them.

Wow, those are great pictures.  They opened right up for me, no
problem.  I wish I had seen them earlier.  I see some modifications I
need to make to the shape of my metal piece.  I need a few more sharp
angles at the edges of the contact point and end of the wings. Very
helpful. 

If I were to want the whole piece like the one in your picture, where
would I find one and how do I install it?  I can't figure out how to
get the white box like housing off the shift stick.  All gears and rod
stuff at the bottom scare me.  And if I just wanted the spring and the
metal piece are those available separately? 

Your photos have helped so much.  I will try a parts store today about
that spring piece with your photo in hand. If you know a sure path to
a new part(s) please let me know.
