> I was just flipping through the dealer brochure I recently picked up for our Fastback, and it describes a "locking steering column" for the '68 Fastback. While I know that '68 and newer domestic cars have locking steering columns, the column in our Fastback most certainly does not lock. Is this a common thing to break or gum up? Or does the car not have a locking column. > I don't see how it could break, the locking tabs are welded to the column. They can be removed though. My '69 locks. I've seen a couple '67s that did not lock but I don't know if '67 and '68 were "without lock" for the USA. My friend has a '66 that does not lock but he reports that the locking tabs have clearly been removed from the column. -- Everett Barnes http://www.thesamba.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
